Sturgeon bite continues for anglers wanting to catch a dinosaur through the ice. Gold and glow with one jigging line and one deadstick working well. The Rainy River is ice covered and where there is good ice, anglers are still finding walleyes primarily morning and evening. Must be set up early and stay till just after dark ideally. Often, a plain glow hook, colored hook or an ice jig tipped with a live minnow 6" - 1' off of the bottom is the ticket.įor those who are portable, the morning / evening walleyes are being caught 10-15' along shore and can be a fun way to start or end the day. Gold, glow, pink, glow red, glow green are all effective colors. Even if the fish aren't hitting noisier presentations, it still helps others in the fish house to attract them.ĭeadstick your second line. Vibration and rattles on some days, other days no rattles.

Slot and trophy walleyes in the mix along with eelpout, jumbo perch, pike, tullibee, and sturgeon. Ice anglers are still catching numbers of walleyes and saugers, sorting through smaller fish to find keepers. Stay on marked ice roads, trails, etc.įishing reports for walleyes and saugers are good. Check with ice road operators for specifics as ice conditions vary. As the ice thickens, some resorts / outfitters are using bombardiers and others are allowing one ton trucks on ice roads.

Ice fishing is in full swing and a great week it was. You'll also be able to tell if the job is within your abilities. The complete axle is NOT a cheap /easy fix! Just this spring, I helped a buddy replace his torsion axle to the tune of ~$540, that was ONLY the axle, no hubs or outside labor!! Take a look at the thread at the top of this forum, "How to repack wheel bearings" by Dave.

If you find burrs and nicks etc, the spindle may have suffered damage and will need to be repaired/ replaced. If all is good, you can take the bearing housing and the bearing into an auto parts store and get a new bearing and race set and just replace it ,you should be good to go again. Now, on the "spindle" (the thing with the threads that all this stuff came off of) look at the smooth area right behind the threads, clean off the grease and run your fingers around it, feel for nicks burrs anything that doesn't feel like it belongs there. Pull off the bearing housing/hub and finally (if it hasn't come off in the hub already) the inner bearing and grease seal. Youngie22, By the 'bearing housing', I'd guess that you are refering to the hub? Is it the part that the wheel/tire bolt to? If so, It would sound like you have suffered a bearing failure already and were VERY lucky to make it to where you had it stored!! To see if it is repairable, remove the bearing buddy, then the cotter pin, the castle nut (looks like it sounds) or nut retainer and nut, the washer and then the outer bearing.
